Bengaluru,Karnataka: State-level launching of the Brahma Kumaris National Project – Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan took place on 15.10.2023 at Brahma Kumaris, the Academy for Divine Wisdom, Bannerghatta Road, Gottigere, Bengaluru. The Honourable Governor of Karnataka, Shri Thawar Chand Gehlot ji inaugurated the programme.
Greeting one and all on the occasion of the auspicious occasion of Dussehra celebrations, the Honourable Governor said the people in India and all over the world are well aware of the Brahma Kumaris and their ideals. Talking about the Brahma Kumaris, he said that he has always been overwhelmed by the programmes of the Brahma Kumaris and so is he by this place too. An organisation with its presence all over the world is dedicated to personality development, humanity, personal transformation and world renewal, thereby helping one and all to lead a successful and meaningful life. They have established a place and identity for themselves among the spiritual organisations of the world.
The addiction-free India campaign has been launched and implemented all over. Addiction leads a person, family and society towards destruction. Instead of development, it leads us towards destruction. So, it is very essential to not only make oneself addiction-free but also make the family, society and the country addiction-free. The Govt of India, the state government and the Brahma Kumaris have started this campaign with the aim of seeing an addiction-free India when we celebrate 100 years of Independence.
The Honourable Governor said that the stressful modern lifestyle pushes a person towards addiction, and it is absolutely essential to stop this one has to start from one’s own home. This can be done by the family, by paying attention to all the generations – if there is any change in the attitude or behaviour of a person – then we should check whether the person is heading towards addiction. Thus, bringing in a very practical and easy approach to tackle this problem. He went into the depth of the cause and effects of this addiction on a person/student and how this addiction brings negativity and degradation in the quality of one’s life.
Earlier, Shri Thawar Chand Gehlot ji was also holding the ministry of social justice and empowerment. For 7 years he formulated and implemented the Nasha Mukt Programs and tried to make society free from addictions. He has also visited many rehabilitation centres and tried to understand the reasons behind his inclination towards addiction.
One of the solutions to this problem of addiction is to bring in the prohibition of drugs. But as per our Indian culture and traditions, we can try to transform people by advising them, making them understand, and making them realise that addiction affects — health, our mental strength, our family gets disturbed, the society is also affected negatively and instead of progress we go towards destruction. By advising in this way, we should inspire them to become addiction-free. This is also a solution.
The Government and Brahma Kumaris are thinking on these lines and striving to make people become addiction-free and are also becoming successful in that. The Honourable Governor’s powerful words of inspiration were: Through the power of your thought one can accomplish anything and achieve success. So a powerful thought can also make us  addiction-free. He also said that it’s not only an addiction, but even if we have any other habit which we want to leave, we can do it through our powerful tthoughts.
The Honourable Governor said through his department, he had established 28 de-addiction centres in the Punjab area. There are many who benefited from them.
On completion of 100 years of independence, there will be celebrations. The citizens of India, the Govt. of India and the Brahma Kumaris, all will celebrate 100 years of Independence. Also by becoming addiction free, we will celebrate freedom from addiction. So, the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment has signed an MOU with the Brahma Kumaris; and the Govt. of India and the Brahma Kumaris together are striving to make India addiction-free, with positive active efforts..
The Medical Wing of the Brahma Kumaris, aims to empower people and enhance their self-respect through spiritual altruism. They teach the art of living through the concepts of spirituality and Rayoga meditation thus enabling them to lead anaddiction-free life. The campaign started by the trained brothers and sisters of Brahma Kumaris to make India an addiction-free is a praise-worthy step, which will definitely awaken the people affected by it and will successfully bring about positive transformation in their lives. So, he asked us all to come together and help people affected by alcoholism and drugs, and work towards the welfare of society and the country.
The Honourable Governor congratulated one and all for the success of this campaign gave his best wishes, and wished everyone a bright future.
The entire gathering took an oath / pledge of de-addiction.
Say no to drugs & yes to life.
